HELLO AND WELCOME…
Hello and welcome to our musical production for 2026 “Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”.
After the success of “13” last March and our stunning “Dedicated” concert in July, we are thrilled to be able to bring “Joseph” back to The Winston Churchill Theatre.
When Andrew Lloyd Webber turned to the biblical story of Joseph, he transformed an ancient tale into a vivid, emotionally charged musical. Combining his gift for memorable melodies with Tim Rice’s theatrical lyrics, Lloyd Webber crafted a show that blends pop-rock energy, gospel warmth, and Broadway sweep. The result is a portrait of resilience and forgiveness brought to life by soaring songs, colorful staging, and a compelling title role that made Joseph both a family favorite and a chart-topping phenomenon. Lloyd Webber’s score balances spectacle with intimacy, reminding audiences that even the grandest productions are powered by human longing and hope.
Joseph was first presented as a 15-minute assembly at a School in London in 1968. After the success of the next Lloyd Webber and Rice piece, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph received amateur stage productions in the US beginning in 1970, and the first American release of the album was in 1971. The musical had its professional premiere, as a 35-minute musical, at the Haymarket ice rink during the Edinburgh International Festival in 1972. It was Part Two of Bible One, a Young Vic Theatre Company production presented by the National Theatre of Great Britain. While still undergoing various modifications and expansions, the musical was produced in the West End in 1973. In 1974, its full modern format was performed at the Haymarket Theatre in Leicester and was also recorded that year. The musical was mounted on Broadway in 1982. Several major revivals, national tours, and a 1999 direct-to-video film starring Donny Osmond followed. Since then Joseph has seen thousands of productions world wide, starring many stars and celebrities.
“Joseph” is a great show for Starlight and we have had great fun rehearsing this show. For some of our cast this is their first full scale production with us, and our new members have all fitted in so well (and quickly) into Starlight. Our long-standing members have adjusted well to the change, giving the group a stunning new and young dynamic. I’m positive you will feel their energy from your seat!
Everything you see tonight is the result of only 22 rehearsals and once again the members of Starlight have amazed me with their talent, they are a true joy to direct.
I honestly believe that the Starlight experience is very special, we are a team, we are a family, and we support each other on and off stage. This has become extremely prominent over the past few years.
As always, Starlight wouldn’t be complete without our tech team and stage crew who are all vital to the production and I thank them for all their hard work.
After “Joseph” we will be rehearsing for our new “Set It Off” concert, with incredible songs from various musicals this will be great fun to rehearse and perform.
If you’d like to be a part of the group fill out an enquiry form here.
Thank you for coming tonight, I know you’re in for a great show; join in, clap and cheer as much as you like, the cast deserve all the praise they get.
Enjoy the show!
