HELLO AND WELCOME…
Good evening and welcome to our compilation cabaret for 2025 “Set It Off”.
After the success of “Annie” in July, we wanted something to bridge the gap before we start work on our main production for 2026, “Matilda”.
The musicals we are celebrating tonight are iconic and have been great fun to rehearse.
Descendants is a Disney Channel movie about the teenage children of Disney villains. The film explores identity, redemption, and friendship, mixing music with modern fairy tales. Its soundtrack and diverse cast have made Descendants a popular family franchise.
Les Misérables, or Les Mis, is a famous musical based on Victor Hugo’s novel. It explores justice, redemption, and human struggle against 19th-century French social injustice. The story follows ex-convict Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert. Known for its powerful music and emotion, it is one of the longest-running, most beloved musicals.
Mean Girls: The Musical is a sharp, hilarious adaptation of the iconic film that explores the high school hierarchy with wit and heart. Featuring catchy songs and memorable characters, this show dives into the complexities of friendship, identity, and popularity.
Hairspray is a vibrant, feel-good musical set in 1960s Baltimore that follows Tracy Turnblad, a spirited teenager with big dreams of dancing on a local TV dance show. Packed with catchy tunes, colorful characters, and a powerful message about acceptance and standing up against racial prejudice,
Everything you see tonight is the result of only 11 rehearsals (and a couple of hours in the theatre today) and once again the members of Starlight have amazed me with their talent and teamwork. As always, a big thank you to our team who have assisted us with their expertise and support; Tim Edwards our lighting designer, and Dan Tigg our sound engineer, along with Peter Ward, Peter Cocup, Ryan Tait, and Katie Roberts.
From January we will start rehearsals for our 2026 musical “Matilda”.
Matilda the Musical adapts Roald Dahl's story of a brilliant girl who, despite a harsh home and cruel headmistress, uses her wit and courage to stand up for herself and others. With memorable songs and humor, it celebrates bravery and kindness and will be great fun to rehearse and perform.
.The production will be performed at the The Riverside Arts Centre 9-11th July 2026.
